The Clase Azul × Eduardo Sarabia edition is a 2023 collaboration with the Mexican artist, presented in a hand-painted cobalt-and-gold ceramic decanter. The liquid is a joven — a blend of unaged blanco with an añejo aged in Russian oak casks and another aged in amontillado sherry casks, from 100% blue Weber agave. The decanter's front shows crossed picks and spades from a family treasure-hunt tale and a two-peso coin dated 1976, Sarabia's birth year; the back carries a parrot, rooster, and she-goat from his Sinaloa folklore. Around 450 bottles were made.

The Elemental Distinction
  • A 2023 collaboration with artist Eduardo Sarabia (b. 1976), known for folkloric Northern-Mexican imagery.
  • A joven: unaged blanco blended with a Russian-oak-cask añejo and an amontillado-sherry-cask añejo. (Often retailed as "Añejo.")
  • Hand-painted cobalt-and-gold ceramic decanter with a gold domed cap; about 450 bottles.
  • Front: crossed picks and spades (a grandfather's treasure hunt) and a 1976 two-peso coin (the artist's birth year).
  • Back: a parrot, rooster, and she-goat drawn from his family's Sinaloa folklore; offered in Dorado and Color finishes.
Sensory Profile

Nose: Caramel, vanilla, roasted agave, and toasted oak.

Palate: Dark chocolate, dried fruit, toasted almond, and spice.

Finish: Long and warm. (Tasting notes are retailer-reported.)

Strategic Position

An artist-collaboration joven and one of the rarest pieces in the catalogue. It connects to the flagship Gold joven by expression and to our unaged Plata blanco by its base, and sits among our other artist collaborations and special editions.

Collector Note

This is the rare case where the decanter is the artwork. Eduardo Sarabia — born in Los Angeles in 1976 and based in Guadalajara — built the design from his own iconography: crossed picks and spades for a childhood story of his grandfather chasing buried treasure, a two-peso coin stamped 1976 for the year he was born, and, on the back, a parrot, a rooster, and a she-goat lifted from the folk and musical narratives of his family's Sinaloa. The hand-painted ceramic comes in two finishes — Dorado, with 24-karat gold accents, and Color, which adds green and red to the animal motifs — so the run is a small one, around 450 bottles, and each is hand-painted. The liquid is a joven: unaged blanco blended with an añejo from Russian oak casks and another from amontillado sherry casks, an unusual pairing that explains the dried-fruit and toasted-almond notes. It makes a collectible centerpiece for anyone who follows either the brand or the artist.

Recommended Serving

Serve it neat at room temperature in a snifter or short-stemmed glass, no ice, so the Russian-oak and amontillado-sherry cask notes — dried fruit, chocolate, toasted almond — carry. Given the decanter, this is one to pour and display rather than mix.

Production Methodology

The liquid is a joven — the deliberate marriage of unaged and aged tequila. Clase Azul blended unaged blanco with two añejos matured in unusual wood: one in Russian oak casks and one in amontillado sherry casks, all from 100% blue Weber agave. (Retailers often list the edition as "Añejo" because of those aged components, but the brand describes a joven blend.) The hand-painted ceramic decanter, designed by Eduardo Sarabia and finished in cobalt and 24-karat gold, is offered in Dorado and Color variations; each piece is painted by hand, so no two are identical.

Frequently Asked Questions

It is a 2023 limited edition created with the Mexican artist Eduardo Sarabia, presented in a hand-painted cobalt-and-gold ceramic decanter. It is a joven — a blend of unaged blanco tequila with an añejo aged in Russian oak casks and another aged in amontillado sherry casks, from 100% blue Weber agave. Those casks give a profile of caramel, dried fruit, dark chocolate, and toasted almond over an oak finish.
