What is the story behind The Macallan Edition No. 6?
Edition No. 6 pays tribute to the River Spey, which borders The Macallan Estate. It was created by whisky maker Steven Bremner in collaboration with Hardy, the fly-fishing house, The Macallan's Ghillie Robert Mitchell, and the Atlantic Salmon Trust, whose conservation work on the river the release supported. Five cask types were chosen, each named for a story of the river and estate.
Is Edition No. 6 the last Macallan Edition?
Yes. Edition No. 6, released in 2020, is the sixth and final release of The Macallan Edition Series, which ran annually from 2015. The series closed at the top of its ascending strength ladder, with No. 6 bottled at 48.6% ABV.
What casks were used in The Macallan Edition No. 6?
Five cask types of American and European sherry-seasoned oak, hand-picked by whisky maker Steven Bremner and each named on the pack for a story of the river: the Spey, the Ghillie, Hardy, the Atlantic salmon, and whisky making at The Macallan. The natural rich brass colour is drawn from the wood alone.
