How old is the 2023 Eagle Rare 17?
Although the label states 17 years, the minimum age for any barrel in the bottle, the 2023 release was actually 19 years and 3 months old, the oldest Eagle Rare 17 in the Antique Collection's history at the time. It was distilled in the spring of 2004 and bottled at 101 proof. The barrels aged in Warehouses C, I, K, M, and Q.
Why is the 2023 Eagle Rare bottled at 101 proof?
The 101 proof is a deliberate tribute to the original Eagle Rare brand, launched in 1975, and the expression is bottled at that strength every year regardless of age. It uses Buffalo Trace's low-rye Mash Bill #1, the same recipe as George T. Stagg. Official notes for 2023 include dark chocolate, cherry pie filling, and an earthy cigar-box finish.
