Is the 15 Year the youngest Pappy Van Winkle?
Yes. Pappy Van Winkle's Family Reserve 15 Year is the entry to the Pappy tier and the youngest of the Pappy bottlings, below the 20 and 23 Year. It sits above the Van Winkle Special Reserve 12 Year, Lot B, in the wider Van Winkle line, and shares the same wheated mash bill as the rest of the family.
How is Pappy 15 different from the younger Van Winkle bourbons?
At 15 years it shows more barrel integration and a deeper, more tannic character than the 10 and 12 Year, with toffee, leather, dried cherry, and baking spice over deeply integrated oak. It is bottled at 107 proof, the same strength as the 10 Year, but the extra aging makes it fuller and more complex.
