What is the blend of Opus One 2022?
Opus One 2022 is a five-variety Bordeaux blend: 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Petit Verdot, 6.5% Cabernet Franc, 5% Merlot, and 0.5% Malbec. Like every Opus One vintage it is a single wine, blended anew each year from the estate's Oakville fruit, and bottled at 14% ABV. An early barrel-sample blend reported a higher Cabernet share; the figures here are the final bottled composition.
Who makes Opus One?
Opus One was founded in 1978 as a joint venture between Robert Mondavi of Napa Valley and Baron Philippe de Rothschild of Château Mouton Rothschild, whose signatures appear on every label. The 2022 vintage was made by winemaker Michael Silacci, who marked his 25th harvest with the estate in 2025, from four estate parcels in the Oakville district of Napa Valley.
When should you drink Opus One 2022?
Opus One 2022 is already approachable on release, and professional critics give it a drinking window running to roughly 2044 to 2050. Decanting an hour ahead helps a young bottle open; a large Bordeaux glass suits it. It is built to reward cellaring, so bottles held in good conditions should develop for a decade or more.
