This edition marks a sophisticated collaboration with Cognac specialist Alain Royer, utilizing reconstructed Cognac barrels with heavy-toast staves to achieve a profile of immense structural complexity. It serves as the third barrel-finish entry in this prestigious annual series, merging American malt traditions with French finishing expertise.

The Technical Distinction

The 18th Edition is defined by a novel finishing approach that reconstructs standard Cognac casks to amplify wood compounds.

  • Malt Foundation: Composed of Heaven Hill’s malt whiskey mashbill (majority malted barley), aged 14 years in the upper floors of Rickhouses O and Q.
  • Reconstructed Barrels: Cognac casks were disassembled and rebuilt with new heavy-toast staves to contribute caramelized wood depth alongside dried fruit notes.
  • Four-Month Finish: The mature malt whiskey was finished in these specialized casks for nearly four months to resolve the spirit into a velvety whole.
  • Charitable Mission: Continuing the series' legacy, proceeds support ALS research in honor of Master Distiller Emeritus Parker Beam.
Sensory Profile

Nose: Oranges, summer fruit, and black herbal tea. Layers of dark chocolate, caramel, and toasted marshmallow emerge alongside cedar spice and mellow oak.

Palate: Rich and velvety with a port-like mouthfeel. Bittersweet chocolate and molasses lead into mid-palate notes of cloves, nutmeg, roasted nuts, and red berries.

Finish: Long and full-bodied. A signature closing of molasses and chocolate fading to dried apricots, figs, and a gentle peppery tingle.
