A. Hardy Noces de Perle is a Grande Champagne cognac built from ten separate eaux-de-vie, none of them younger than thirty years and some running to fifty, sixty and beyond. It is bottled at 40% ABV (80 proof) with no additives, in a crystal decanter made by Cristalleries des Vosges. Noces de Perle is the pearl anniversary — thirty years — and it opens Hardy's anniversary series, a format the house introduced in 1960. Maison Hardy has been an independent négociant-éleveur at Cognac since 1863 and is now in its fifth generation.

Nº 01

The Elemental Distinction

01

Ten Grande Champagne eaux-de-vie in the blend, each matured at least thirty years, with older components at fifty and sixty years and beyond.

02

Grande Champagne only — the premier cru of the region, grown on clay-limestone over soft chalk soils.

03

Bottled at 40% ABV (80 proof), completely natural in colour and crafted without additives.

04

Matured across two cellars, one humid and one dry, in medium-toasted coarse-grain oak from the Tonnellerie Cognacaise.

05

Noces de Perle marks the pearl anniversary at thirty years and opens the Hardy anniversary series, a format the house began in 1960.

Maison A. Hardy & Grande Champagne Heritage

Independent Négociant-Éleveur Since 1863

Established in Cognac in 1863 by English gentleman Anthony Hardy, Maison A. Hardy operates as an independent négociant-éleveur. Now guided by its fifth generation, Hardy is renowned for assembling extra-aged Grande Champagne reserves into artisan crystal decanters that celebrate major anniversary milestones.

Craftsmanship & Cask Architecture

Dual-Cellar Oak Maturation
30-Year Maturation Floor

Ten Eaux-de-Vie Blend

Blends ten distinct Grande Champagne distillates, aged from thirty to over sixty years in coarse-grain oak.

Dual-Cellar Aging

Humid & Dry Cellar Dynamic

Aged across humid cellars to soften alcohol strength and dry cellars to concentrate aromatics and rancio.

Tonnellerie Cognacaise

Medium-Toasted Oak

Matured in medium-toasted coarse-grain oak barrels, imparting rich wood resin, sandalwood, and gentle tannin.

Cristalleries des Vosges

Bespoke Crystal Decanter

Housed in a frosted pedestal crystal decanter, representing thirty years of marriage ("Pearl Anniversary").

Nº 04

Sensory Profile & Strategy

Cellar Master Tasting Notes
I

Sensory Profile

Nose: Orange peel and raisin first, then oak and sandalwood, with brown sugar and vanilla extract underneath and a thread of rancio.
Palate: Pepper on entry, then it turns sweet and resinous — caramel, tropical fruit, oak — with the weight the older components bring.
Finish: Medium to long, drying through dried fruit and meadow flowers rather than tannin.

II

Strategic Position

Hardy is the independent that the big four's shadow tends to hide, and this is the bottle that makes the case for the house: single-cru, ten components, a thirty-year floor rather than a thirty-year average. Beside the hors d'âge Tesseron from the same cru it shows two different routes through the premier cru. Both sit on the cognac shelf at Midnight Whiskey.

Production Methodology

Cognac law fixes the shape — twice distilled in copper pot stills, Grande Champagne fruit off clay-limestone soils — and Hardy's contribution is the ageing regime and the blending. Barrels move between a humid cellar and a dry one, which pulls the spirit in two directions: humidity softens and drops strength, dry air concentrates. The wood is coarse-grain oak, medium toasted, from the Tonnellerie Cognacaise, and nothing is added afterwards — no colouring, no sweetening. The cellar master then assembles ten eaux-de-vie, each already past thirty years, so the stated age is a floor rather than an average. That is the unusual part: most houses at this tier state nothing at all.

Authentication & Vault Preservation

Every bottle sold through Midnight Whiskey is sourced as an authentic, sealed product and inspected before it ships. Orders are packed with padded, glass-rated handling and require an adult signature (21+) on delivery; we do not ship to anyone unable to verify legal drinking age. For our full sourcing and handling protocols, see our editorial and authentication standards.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does Noces de Perle mean on a Hardy cognac?

Noces de Perle is French for the pearl wedding anniversary, which falls at thirty years. It names the entry expression in Maison Hardy's anniversary series, a format the house introduced in 1960 and which runs up through gold, diamond and alabaster.

How old is the cognac in Hardy Noces de Perle?

Every one of the ten eaux-de-vie in the blend has matured at least thirty years, and the older components are reported at fifty and sixty years and beyond. The thirty-year figure is a floor for the whole blend rather than an average.

Which cru is Hardy Noces de Perle made from?

All ten eaux-de-vie come from Grande Champagne, the premier cru of the Cognac region, whose clay-limestone soils over soft chalk are associated with slow-maturing spirit.
